Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Brother John Moriarty:

Br. John Moriarty, a member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, was accused in a 2003 lawsuit of sexually abusing a 17-year-old boy from 1975-1976 while serving at St. Helena retreat house. The case was settled for $1.2M, and it was reported a year later that Fr. Moriarty was living at Wounded Brothers Project, a treatment center for troubled clergy.  Fr. Moriarty died in 2013. During his career, he worked in California, Oregon, and East Africa. Br. John Moriarty was publicly named on the Diocese of Santa Rosa’s 2019 list of clergy credibly accused of childhood sexual abuse.
