Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Jorge Antonio Velez-Lopez
In 2016, the Diocese of Alexandria removed Fr. Jorge Antonio Velez-Lopez from ministry after having sexual contact with a minor from 2007 to 2010. Fr. Velez-Lopez confirmed the allegation in a meeting with the Archdiocese of Baltimore—where the abuse took place.
The Diocese of Alexandria removed Fr. Velez-Lopez from ministry and prohibited him from living within the diocese. The Archdiocese of Baltimore sent Fr. Velez-Lopez’s case to the Congregation for Doctrine of Review in Rome. The Archdiocese of Baltimore believes there’s only one victim.
The Diocese of Alexandria subsequently named Fr. Jorge Antonio Velez-Lopez on lists of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor in 2019.
Fr. Velez-Lopez began working with the Archdiocese of Baltimore in July 2002. He served at St. John from 2003 to 2010 before moving to Alexandria. He also had numerous assignments in Colombia during his ministry. Fr. Jorge Antonio Velez-Lopez’s whereabouts are unknown.
