Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Jorge Cordova Hernandez:

According to media reports, Father Jorge Cordova Hernandez was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Quito, Ecuador. In 2005, Father Cordova Hernandez was charged with ten counts of sexual abuse involving two female minors during his assignment at St. Francis of Assisi in Yuma, Arizona. The alleged child sexual abuse occurred from approximately 1988 to 1991. Following the charges, Father Cordova Hernandez fled to Ecuador and then to Spain. In June 2007, he was detained by U.S. authorities in Spain, however, authorities were unable to extradite him due to the age of the crime.

Cordova then returned to Ecuador, where Tucson police learned that he continued to associate himself with the church in an unknown capacity. A warrant remains in effect in Tucson.

Father Cordova Hernandez was named on the Diocese of Phoenix’s and the Diocese of Tucson’s lists of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors which was first made public in summer 2002.
