Fr. Joseph Girdis – Diocese of Pittsburgh

Fr. Joseph Girdis

Diocese of Pittsburgh

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Joseph Girdis:

In August 2019, Father Joseph Girdis was one of two priests named in a civil lawsuit filed against the Diocese of Pittsburgh.  The lawsuit claims that Girdis and Fr. Larry Smith sexually abused a 12 year old boy while he was residing at the Holy Family Institute in Emsworth, Pennsylvania, in the 1970s.

Neither Girdis nor Smith were identified in the 2018 Grand Jury Report, and neither man appears on the Diocese of Pittsburgh’s list of accused priests.
