Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Lawrence Sievers:

Fr. Lawrence Sievers was ordained a priest in 1935 and served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Pueblo. According to media reports, in October 2019, the Colorado Attorney General released a detailed report of a special investigation into the handling of child sexual abuse allegations by Colorado’s three Catholic dioceses.  For the first time, Fr. Lawrence Sievers was publicly identified as a priest with a documented report of sexual abuse.

According to the documents reviewed by the investigators, Sievers sexually abused a high school girl who was working with him on a special Catholic project in 1969.  She was 17 at the time.

Sievers held several assignments in the Diocese of Pueblo at the time of the incident, including an assistant pastorate at St. Joseph in Grand Junction, and a chaplaincy at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.  At the time, he also served as the Grand Junction District Youth Moderator for the Diocese.

Sievers voluntarily resigned from ministry in 1973 and he was subsequently laicized (removed from the priesthood) by the Vatican.

Whether Sievers is still alive or is residing in the Pueblo area is unknown.  The Diocese has not provided that information to the media or the general public.
