Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Leo James Michaud:
Fr. Leo James Michaud was ordained a priest in 1982, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Portland. According to media reports, Bishop Joseph Gerry removed Fr. Michaud from active ministry after an allegation of child sexual abuse in the 1970’s against the priest was reported to the Diocese of Portland. The alleged abuse occurred over a three-year period beginning when the victim was 16 years old. Fr. Leo Michaud was a seminarian at the time of the alleged abuse. The Diocese of Portland did not release information regarding the nature of the alleged abuse.
In 2007, Bishop Malone of the Diocese of Portland reported that the diocese could not substantiate allegations of sexual abuse of a minor against Fr. Michaud; however, the bishop noted that there was evidence of misconduct and that Michaud should not be assigned to public ministry.
Fr. Michaud’s name was changed to Fr. James L. Michaud in the 2004-2012 Catholic Directories.
His current whereabouts are unknown.
