Father Melvin James was a member of the Divine Word Missionaries, who served in multiple parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, in December 2018, he was named publicly as accused on the Los Angeles archdiocese’s updated list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. It noted allegations reported in 2015 of child sexual abuse in the 1990s. According to Archdiocese records, he is not in ministry “per order” as of 2005.
