Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Michael Hansen:

Father Michael Hansen was ordained a priest in 1967 and served in the Archdiocese of Newark. He served as parochial vicar at multiple parishes, and was a former volunteer firefighter for the Glen Ridge Fire Department and fire chaplain for the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association.

According to media reports, in 2003, an adult male filed a complaint with the Archdiocese of Newark stating that he repeatedly sexually abused a 14 to 15-year-old boy from 1980 to 1981.  At the time of the alleged abuse, Father Hansen was serving at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Orange, New Jersey. Father Hansen reportedly fondled the boy’s penis and testicles, both over the boy’s clothing and inside the boy’s clothing, skin-on-skin.

The claimant died before the resolution of his case, which was later settled.

Father Hansen retired from his role at Church of the Assumption in Emerson in 2009,. He died in August 2012.
