Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Patrick J Weaver:

In a 1966 case, a young boy alleged that Father Patrick J Weaver abused him after he went to Weaver, then serving at St. John in Collingswood, for advice on becoming a priest, the suit says. The boy’s mother quickly complained but says she was threatened with ex-communication unless she kept quiet.

As a “spiritual advisor” to then-Bishop Guilfoyle, the Diocese of Camden did nothing to Weaver except promote and transfer him to another parish.

In 1985, another victim alleged that Father Weaver molested him at St. Joan of Arc rectory in Camden, forcing him to urinate as the priest held the boy’s penis. Weaver was never charged with that assault. Despite a state law requiring notification of police, law enforcement was never alerted.

That same year, Weaver quit the Diocese of Camden and was convicted for molesting his own nephew and another boy who attended St. Joan of Arc. For his crimes, Weaver served no time and was, instead, placed on probation.

In 2019, there was a lawsuit in which Weaver was accused of abusing a boy, ages 8-13, in 1974-1978.

Weaver’s name appears on the February 2019 Diocese of Camden list of credibly accused priests. According to Bishop Sullivan, the list, “includes those who admitted to the abuse, those who were found guilty after a trial in the church courts or the civil courts, and others against whom the evidence was so overwhelming as to be virtually unquestionable.”

Weaver died in 2011.
