Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Paul Avallone:

Father Paul Avallone was first named publicly as a priest accused of sexual abuse by the Archdiocese of New Orleans on its list in November of 2018. The allegation was received from the Salesian order in 2011, and pertained to abuse in the Archdiocese of New Orleans in the late 1950’s, early 1960’s. Since 2002, Father Avallone had been a member of the Salesian community. No information has been released about the nature of the alleged abuse, or the number of victims who have come forward. 

Paul Avallone died in July of 2008. According to his obituary, he also worked as the director-principal of Salesian high schools in Sherbrooke, Quebec, and Marrero, Louisiana. 

In April of 2020, the Archdiocese of New Orleans filed for bankruptcy protection. As part of its bankruptcy, the Archdiocese of New Orleans will be reviewing and paying claims for anyone sexually abused by diocesan priests and lay employees. This will likely include claims filed on behalf of anyone whose case may be beyond the statute of limitations.
