Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Paul Butler:

On July 17, 2021, the Diocese of Rockville Centre announced that Fr. Paul Butler, a priest assigned to St. Margaret of Scotland parish in Seldon, voluntarily resigned his position following an allegation of child sexual abuse.  Butler was ordained as Catholic priest in 1987.  He has been identified as a perpetrator in at least one lawsuit involving alleged child sexual abuse of a minor.  In the case, the alleged abuse is said to have occurred while Butler was a seminarian in the mid-1980’s.

The Diocese released very little information about the allegation except to say that it was made in a lawsuit filed by the alleged victim, who says that the abuse occurred in the 1980s when Butler was a seminarian.

The Diocese says that Butler’s faculties will be suspended pending its internal investigation.
