According to media reports, in February 1999, a lawsuit was filed alleging that Jean committed numerous acts of sexual assault, sexual abuse, and sexual exploitation on a child from the ages of 9 to 13. In 2003, a former altar boy said that Jean sexually abused him back in 1985 at Our Lady of Lourdes in Ledyard, CT. The diocese paid the victim a $275,000 settlement.
