Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Rene Maynard:

Father Rene Maynard was a priest of the Franciscan Order. He served as a teacher at Bishop Timon High School, as well as at St. Mary Church in Rome, Italy. According to media reports, his name was included in the Diocese of Buffalo’s updated 2018 list of priests with substantiated claims of sexual abuse of a minor. Details of the allegation, including when and where the alleged misconduct occurred, are unknown. The original list was published in March 2018.

In April 2019, Father Maynard’s name was also included in the Diocese of Atlanta’s updated list of priests credibly accused of child sexual abuse. His name appears in the section titled, “Religious Order / Other Diocesan Priests With Credible Allegations of Child Abuse Outside the Diocese of Atlanta.” Details of the allegation, including when and where the alleged misconduct occurred, are unknown.

In October 2021, the Holy Name Province published a list of Franciscan friars with substantiated child sexual abuse and misconduct claims following a review of its files by an advisory firm. Rene Maynard was one of 23 the friars named.
