Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Richard Chachere:

Fr. Chachere was ordained a priest in 1965, and served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Lafayette. According to media reports, in April 2019, he was publicly named on the Diocese of Lake Charles disclosure list of “clerics who served in the area before Lake Charles became a diocese, and against whom the Diocese of Lake Charles received an allegation.” The list noted that the allegation of child sex abuse in 1964 against Fr. Chachere was received in 2009.

The alleged abuse was said to have occurred at Our Lady Queen of Heaven School where Fr. Chachere served as parochial vicar. Information about the age/gender of his alleged victim/victims and the nature of the alleged sexual abuse was not provided. The Diocese of Lake Charles referred the case to the Diocese of Lafayette.

The Diocese of Lafayette also added Fr. Chachere’s name to its 2019 list of “diocesan clergy against whom credible allegations have been made regarding sexual abuse of a minor or vulnerable adult.” The Diocese of Lafayette did not provide any information regarding the age/gender of his alleged victim/victims and the nature of the alleged sexual abuse.
