Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Richard Galdon:

Father Richard Galdon was ordained a priest in 1959 and served in the Archdiocese of Newark. He was also a Boy Scout troop chaplain. According to media reports, in 1986, after serving at Our Lady of Good Counsel for almost 27 years, he was accused of sexually assaulting an altar boy and two other young students at the parish grammar school.

In March 1987, Father Galdon pleaded guilty as part of an agreement in which prosecutors dropped the charges that he sexually assaulted seven other boys between June 1981 and September 1985. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

In February 2019, Father Galdon’s name was included on its list of 63 priests “credibly accused” of child sex abuse.  He is listed as having “multiple” credible allegations of abuse against him, presumably referring to those for which he pleaded guilty.  No other details about the allegations were provided.

“This list of names is the result of an extensive review of Archdiocesan records dating back to 1940. All names were previously reported to law enforcement agencies. The Archdiocese of Newark has a zero-tolerance policy for any type of mistreatment or misconduct involving children and young adults. No member of the clergy with a credible allegation of sexual abuse of a minor remains in ministry.”

Father Galdon died in 2000. According to his obituary, he spent the last months of his life at the Servants of the Paraclete, a notorious treatment facility for pedophile priests in Jemez Springs, New Mexico.
