Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Richard Gorman:

In mid-2015, a man reported to law enforcement and the Archdiocese of New York that Fr. Richard Gorman had sexually abused him in 1980 when he was 13-years-old at St. Barnabas in the Bronx, New York. The investigations reportedly yielded several additional alleged victims and witnesses, all of which Gorman denied. According to the Archdiocese of New York, after a review, the Archdiocese deemed the allegations “credible but not yet substantiated”. He was placed on leave in January 2016.

In May 2017, Gorman was reportedly removed from the ministry. The Archdiocese of New York settled with at least two survivors in 2017 as part of the Archdiocese’s compensation program.

Gorman was named on the Archdiocese of New York’s 2019 List of Archdiocesan Clergy Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of a Minor or the Subject of Eligible IRCP Compensation Claims. At the time of Gorman’s death, canonical proceedings regarding laicization were pending.

Gorman died in 2018.
