Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Richard Rieboldt:

Fr. Richard Rieboldt was ordained a priest in 1975, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Lafayette, as head of the diocesan marriage tribunal. According to media reports, in April 2019, he was publicly named on the Diocese of Lafayette’s disclosure list of “priests against whom credible allegations have been made regarding sexual abuse of a minor or vulnerable adult.” Information about the date, age/gender of his alleged victim/victims and the nature of the alleged sexual abuse was not provided by the Diocese of Lafayette.

Fr. Rieboldt’s name appeared on a list of clergy suspected of abuse in diocese documents that were later used in a lawsuit filed by the Diocese of Lafayette against its insurers. According to the document, Fr. Rieboldt left the seminary for two years in 1971 for psychological counseling and that he attended the House of Affirmation in 1981.

Richard Rieboldt resigned from ministry in 1985, and was removed in 1989. His current whereabouts are unknown.
