Father Robert Beiter taught religious studies at Catholic high schools and worked at various parishes in the Diocese of Buffalo for over 45 years before retiring in 2008.
In 2021, Fr. Beiter was suspended from priestly ministry after a claim against him surfaced in confidential documents filed in the diocese’s federal bankruptcy case. The details of the sexual abuse allegations, including when and where the alleged abuse occurred, or the victim’s age/gender, are unknown.
Fr. Beiter died in June 2022, just one month before the Diocese of Buffalo exonerated him after spending the last nine months of his life under a cloud of suspicion due to a sexual abuse allegation. According to media reports, the diocese said in a prepared statement that a review board determined the accusation was “unsubstantiated.” His sister shared with news reporters that Fr. Beiter was made aware of the clearing right before he died.
