Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Ruben Martinez:

Fr. Ruben Martinez is a member of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate religious order. Martinez has been accused of sexually abusing at least seven people and was named in at least eight civil lawsuits alleging child sexual abuse. The alleged sexual abuse occurred at St. Ferdinand, Holy Family, and Mary Immaculate with dates of abuse ranging from 1970 to 1982. In 1991, Martinez was sent to Servants of the Paraclete in Jemez Springs, New Mexico, an institution known for treating priests accused of child sexual abuse.

According to media reports, in 2005, Martinez admitted to abusing as many as 100 boys, including his younger brother. As of 2013, Martinez was reportedly living at a Catholic center for troubled clergy in Missouri. His files were released by Order in 2013 and showed some allegations written in Japanese characters to disguise references to the acknowledgment of homosexuality and admitting to relations with boys.

Martinez was included in the Diocese of Oakland 2019 list of priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors and on the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list.

In 1993, Martinez was removed from active ministry.
