Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Thomas J. Engbers:

Fr. Thomas J. Engbers was ordained in 1967.

In 2002, Engbers resigned from his parish for health reasons. However, several months later the Archdiocese of Miami confirmed that Engbers’ resignation was because of a 22-year-old sexual abuse complaint in the priest’s file.

According to media reports, a man accusing Engbers said that his father reported the abuse to church authorities when the abuse took place but nothing was done. The man complained again in 2002 and then Engbers retired. There were notes in Engbers’ file with the man’s name, age, and a reference to Engbers’ treatment for a foot fetish.

The nature of the alleged sexual abuse or Engbers’s assignments at the time of the alleged abuse is unknown.

Engbers died in October of 2020.
