Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Thomas Squires:
The Diocese of Ogdensburg released a list of 28 priests who were credibly accused of sexual misconduct with a minor or a vulnerable adult on November 13th, 2018. One priest that was first named publicly of abuse by the list was Father Thomas Squires. The Diocese of Ogdensburg did not include the number of alleged victims or the time frame that the alleged abuse occurred. The only information given about Father Squires was that he has been removed from ministry, but is still living.
In 2019, Thomas Squires was accused in a lawsuit filed under the New York Child Victims Act of abusing a 14-year-old boy for over two years. The victim claimed that Fr. Squires began grooming him at age 11 when his mother was seriously ill with Multiple Sclerosis. The family attended St. John’s in Plattsburgh, where Squires was assigned at the time.
The victim was offered compensation through the Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program, but refused.
Thomas Squires has been removed from public ministry, but his current whereabouts are unknown.
