Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father William Titmas:

In a 1994 RICO lawsuit again the Diocese of Camden, a victim alleged that Father William Titmas abused and assaulted him for years beginning when the victim was 12 or 13 years old.

The victim claims that Titmas and two other priests, John P. Kelly and John P. Bernard, attacked him in parish rectories at St. Gregory’s in Magnolia, St. Peter’s in Merchantville, and Our Lady Star of the Sea in Cape May, New Jersey. He said the abuse took place between 1972 and 1977.

The victim shared in the settlement of the lawsuit with other victims.

Titmas’ name appears on the February 2019 Diocese of Camden list of credibly accused priests. According to Bishop Sullivan, the list, “includes those who admitted to the abuse, those who were found guilty after a trial in the church courts or the civil courts, and others against whom the evidence was so overwhelming as to be virtually unquestionable.”

Titmas died in 2004.
