According to media reports, in 2018, the Jesuits disclosed multiple allegations of sexual abuse by Father John F.X. Bellwoar occurring in the 1950s-60s in Prince George’s County, MD and Washington DC.

Father Bellwoar died in November 1993.

In December 2018, Father Bellwoar was named was named publicly as accused on the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus list of Jesuits with credible allegations of sexual abuse of minors since 1950.

In February 2019, Father Bellwoar’s name appeared on the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s list of credibly accused priests.
