Mr. David Montgomery

Diocese of Erie

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Mr. David Montgomery:

According to public records, David Montgomery, a former teacher in the Diocese of Erie, was sentenced to 32 years in prison for child pornography offenses in 2014. While he was employed as a teacher at Collegiate Academy in Erie, Pennsylvania, he reportedly made numerous videos and images that depicted him engaged in sex acts with a minor male. Montgomery also took sexually explicit photos of the boy.  Montgomery’s illegal sexual contact with the victim began when the boy was approximately 8, and the criminal conduct concluded when the boy was approximately 14.  He was found in possession of numerous items of child pornography at the time of his arrest.

Records show that Montgomery gained access to the boy by paying for his travel to Erie from the victim’s residence outside of Pennsylvania. Montgomery and the victim also traveled together outside Pennsylvania on several occasions.

Montgomery was also accused of taking sexually explicit photos of another minor male who was approximately 8 years old at the time.

Montgomery admitted to producing the pornography with a boy from another state eight times between 2005 and 2010 while the boy was between 10 and 15, and to taking pictures of a local 8-year-old boy on three occasions while the child was naked and sleeping.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian Trabold said one of the pictures showed a naked boy lying on Montgomery’s bed, covered in money.

According to media reports, in April 2019, Montgomery, was included in the Diocese of Erie list of lay people associated with the church who have been credibly accused of actions that, in the diocese’s judgment, disqualify that person from working with children. These actions range from corruption of minors to direct physical sexual abuse or sexual assault of minors.

Montgomery is currently incarcerated in federal prison until 2041.
