Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Mr. Michael Hogan:

Mr. Michael Hogan is a member of the Hudson County Sports Hall of Fame. He began his coaching career in 1981 as an assistant baseball coach at St. Mary’s High School in Jersey City, New Jersey and worked in the Archdiocese of Newark. According to media reports, in 2018, he appeared in court on 8 counts of endangering the welfare of a child after he allegedly had sexually explicit conversations with boys ages 12-13. As of 2018, the charges against him are all second-degree offenses that have the possibility of him serving 5-10 years. He was sentenced to one year of probation after pleading guilty.

In December of 2020, Hogan had a new lawsuit against him, accusing him of sexually abusing a teenager that he coached in the 1980s at St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, New Jersey, and at the city’s “Stars of Tomorrow” baseball program. The abuse took place numerous times starting around 1986 when the plaintiff was 15-16 years old. The lawsuit names the Jersey City Recreation Department, the city itself, the Archdiocese of Newark, St. Anthony High School, and the estate of former Jersey City Recreation Department Superintendent as defendants.

According to media reports, the complaint accuses Hogan of “forcible, unpermitted, unlawful sexual contact” with the plaintiff and alleges that Hogan “used his position of power as a coach to groom the plaintiff for sexual abuse and to sexually abuse the plaintiff”. The suit does not detail allegations of abuse of other students or players. According to an email, the Jersey City spokeswoman stated that “the city has yet to be served with any such lawsuit…we take these allegations very seriously.”
