Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Msgr. Howard Hotard:

Monsignor Howard Hotard was first named publicly as accused of sexual misconduct with a minor on the Archdiocese of New Orleans’ 2018 list of credibly accused clergy members. The list notes that the allegation against Hotard was received in 1995 of abuse that occurred in the early 1980s. Although the list does not state where the alleged abuse occurred, Monsignor Hotard was the pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes in Slidell for almost 32 years. 

Howard Hotard was removed from ministry in 2002 and died in July of 2013. 

No further information has been released by the Archdiocese of New Orleans about the number of victims who have come forward with allegations against Howard Hotard, or the type of sexual misconduct that was reported in 1995. 

In April of 2020, the Archdiocese of New Orleans filed for bankruptcy protection. As part of its bankruptcy, the Archdiocese of New Orleans will be reviewing and paying claims for anyone sexually abused by diocesan priests and lay employees. This will likely include claims filed on behalf of anyone whose case may be beyond the statute of limitations.
