Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Monsignor Marvin Kapushion:

Msgr. Marvin Kapushion was ordained a priest in 1956, and served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Pueblo. According to media reports, in December 2020, the Attorney General’s Office released a supplemental report of the allegations made in the Colorado Dioceses’ voluntary compensation fund. According to the report, Msgr. Kapushion was one of the newly identified priests who served in the Diocese of Pueblo.

Among the allegations documented in the files of the Diocese of Pueblo was one against a priest, Msgr. Kapushion. According to the report, he was the subject of a report that he was sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy at the Sacred Heart Orphanage in Pueblo, Colorado in 1984.

Kapushion provided counseling to the teenage boy at the orphanage and offered to pay him to shovel snow, serve guests, and help with set-up and clean-up at a Christmas party.

According to the report, Msgr. Kapushion worked as the Pastor at St. Aloysius Parish in Rye, the Director of Catholic Charities in Pueblo, and a counselor to orphans at the Sacred Heart Orphanage in Pueblo when he sexually abused the 16-year-old boy.

Kapushion died just a couple of months after the victim reported the abuse in early 2020 and Kapushion retired from ministry 3 years prior.

When the report was received in 2020, the Pueblo Diocese did not report the abuse to law enforcement until several weeks after Kapushion’s death in April 2020. According to the report, the investigation “found zero substantiated complaints of any kind of abuse toward children” because it was substantially incomplete.
