Summary of Abuse Allegations against Monsignor Nicholas J Capua:
Msgr. Nicholas J Capua was pastor of St. Luke’s Church in Whitestone for 22 years. According to media reports, he was placed on leave without privileges in late May 2007, after the Diocese of Brooklyn deemed credible allegations that he had abused several minors in the mid-1970s when he was in a church in Brooklyn. Capua denied the allegations.
In February 2019, Capua’s name appeared publicly on the Diocese of Brooklyn’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. It noted he was removed from ministry in 2007. The details of the allegations, including when and where the abuse took place, are unknown. It is believed that Capua lived at Our Lady of Consolation Rehabilitation Center from 2008 until his death in 2010.
