Priest U

Diocese of Rockville Centre

Ordained: Unknown

Summary of Abuse Allegations Against Priest U:

In 2003, the Suffolk County Grand Jury released a report of accusations made against 23 Roman Catholic priests in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. The priests, whose names were omitted, were identified only by letters in the report. According to the report, the identity of Priest U is believed to be unknown. It noted “The young man who was the focus of his mother’s complaint to the Diocese has now  retained an attorney and is asking for financial help with counseling. The initial request is for
$50,000. We believe we can settle this matter for even less than that amount.”

The report also noted, “(Name omitted) had a rather angry letter from Priest U complaining that “ the
Diocese has let him down” and asking when we are going to “solve” his problem. In fact we are about to settle the case for the $50,000 initially requested (on advice of our insurance people). This is only one small part of Priest U’s “problem” and it is the only part we can solve.
