Summary of Allegations Against Father Albert Leonard:
Fr. Albert Leonard was ordained a priest in 1980, who served in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. According to media reports, Diocesan records reveal that he had sparked complaints concerning how he acted around children in 1989 and 1993. One of the cases involved the concerns of the parents of a 14-year-old boy. The other case involved parents who were uncomfortable that Fr. Leonard had gone swimming naked with boys and had an unusual relationship with their underage son.
Fr. Leonard asked for a 6-month leave of absence in 1993. In 1994, he attempted to get a job at the Holy Family Institute, a treatment center for children. The Diocese of Pittsburgh told the Institute about the previous allegations of Fr. Leonard’s sexual abuse. He then resigned or was fired when they learned of the allegations against him. He ultimately went on to work at Allegheny County’s Center for Victims where he worked with crime victims as a licensed counselor.
Fr. Leonard died in 2002.
