Fr. Alfred Monte was ordained an Augustinian priest in 1940, who served in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, he was named and accused in a civil lawsuit of sexually abusing a minor in 1947. The details of the sexual abuse allegations, including where the alleged abuse occurred, or the victim’s age/gender, are unknown. Fr. Monte died in 1996. Fr. Jose Mendez, a member of the Augustinian Recollects, was ordained a priest in 1983, who served in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, he was publicly named in a civil lawsuit alleging child sexual abuse of a minor from 1985 to 1987, while serving at San Miguel in Los Angeles, CA.

A report from his superiors recommended that Fr. Mendez be dismissed from the order and stated that Fr. Mendez “probably should never have been professed a religious or ordained a priest.”  He left the Diocese of Orange in 1994.

Fr. Mendez admitted to fathering at least one child and was threatened with a separate paternity suit. His status as a priest, current whereabouts, and whether he has access to children are unknown. Fr. Mendez was included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ 2004 list of Clergy Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of a Minor.

A visiting priest from Mexico, Fr. Esteban Trujillo reportedly worked in the Diocese of San Bernardino from 2001 to 2002. According to the Diocese of San Bernardino, Trujillo was accused of abusing a child in 1998 and 2001 in Mexico.

Trujillo is believed to have served at St. George in Fontana, California, and St. Charles Borromeo in Bloomington, California from 2001 to 2002. Trujillo was included in the Diocese of San Bernardino’s list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse. According to media reports, as of 2003, Trujillo was believed to be residing in Mexico. According to the Diocese of San Bernardino, Trujillo has been permanently banned from ministry in the Diocese.

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Luis Eduardo Ramirez:

Fr. Luis Eduardo Ramirez was ordained an Augustinian Recollects order priest in 2003, who served in the Diocese of Orange. According to media reports, in 2008, he was arrested and charged by Anaheim police on suspicion of child annoyance or molestation and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to reports, Fr. Ramirez told the victim’s parents that he was taking their son to a youth seminar, but instead drove to a restaurant in Orange where he ordered two margaritas for the victim, then brought the boy to Cortona Inn and Suites in Anaheim. There, the priest rented a room and tried to order a pornographic film. He was arrested after taking the 17-year-old parishioner to a motel room where he rented a pornographic movie.

Fr. Ramirez was arrested and bailed out by his order. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and burglary.  He was sentenced to six months in jail and 3 years probation but was released from jail in 2009. Upon his release, he had all privileges removed. Fr. Ramirez’s current location and whether he has access to children is unknown.
