Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Msgr. Conrad Kraus

Msgr. Conrad Kraus was ordained a priest in 1967, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Erie. In 2000, Pope John Paul named him a Prelate of Honor with the title Monsignor. In 1983 he was appointed by Bishop Murphy to serve as Director of the Diocesan Office of Worship, a position he held for 25 years until his retirement in 2008.

According to media reports, in April 2019, the Diocese of Erie announced that it received an allegation of sexual abuse against Msgr. Kraus.  The Diocese did not release any details about the allegation, such as the age/gender of the victim, the nature of the misconduct alleged, or Kraus’ assignment at the time of the alleged abuse. It noted the allegation was under investigation.

Kraus died suddenly in 2009 in Collegeville, Minn. where he was participating in a sabbatical study program.
