Summary of Abuse Allegations against Monsignor Cristobal Garcia:

Monsignor Cristobal Garcia was originally from the Philippines and a member of the Dominican religious order. He arrived in Los Angeles in 1983 and left in 1985. According to media reports, in 1988, he was named in a civil suit alleging that he sexually abused two boys between 1983 and 1986. He was suspended from the Dominican order in 1986 and later expelled. He fled to the Philippines and became part of the Archdiocese of Cebu where he continued to work as a priest and was given the title of Monsignor.

In 2003, Monsignor Garcia was named in a second civil suit alleging child sexual abuse. He admitted to having had sex with two teenage altar boys in Los Angeles in 2005. In June 2012, Monsignor Garcia was removed from the Diocese of Cebu without privileges after the Cebu Archbishop learned of the California allegations against him. He was also linked to ivory smuggling. His personnel files were released in Fall 2012. His name appeared on the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. His current whereabouts are unknown.
