Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Daniel Patrick Brady:

Fr. Daniel Patrick Brady was ordained a priest in 1948. He was first named publicly as a priest accused of child sexual abuse by the Archdiocese of New Orleans on its list in November of 2018. The allegation against Fr. Brady was received in 2002 of abuse that occurred in the 1960’s and 1970’s. According to media reports, in February 2019, his name was included on the Baton Rouge diocese’s list of credible allegations of sexual abuse of one or more minors or vulnerable adults which allegedly occurred within the Diocese of Baton Rouge after its formation in 1961.

The incident in Baton Rouge refers to an allegation received on February 11, 1994, of abuse from 1961-1963 while Fr. Brady was assigned to Holy Ghost in Hammond. No further information has been released about the age/gender of the accusers or the number of victims who have come forward.

Fr. Brady was named in at least two civil lawsuits alleging that he sexually abused children. One of his victims died by suicide. One eulogist reportedly recalled at the funeral that the young man was not “all bad” even though he gave everyone “a lot of trouble.” When his lawyer stood up and told the church congregation that Brady had molested the young man, which ultimately contributed to his decision to take his own life, the congregation gave him a standing ovation.

Fr. Daniel Brady died in 1999.
