Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Denis Ginty:
Father Denis Ginty was ordained a priest in Ireland in 1927, who served in multiple parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, in 1997, allegations were reported that he sexually abused a child from 1978 to 1980. In 2003, he was named in a civil lawsuit alleging he sexually abused a minor child in 1932. The allegations were first reported in 1993.
Father Ginty has been accused by at least four people of child sexual abuse and named in at least three civil lawsuits. The locations of the alleged abuse include Transfiguration Church in Los Angeles and Nativity Church in El Monte. His name appeared on the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ 2005 report addendum of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors.
According to a list maintained by Bishop Accountability.org, Father Ginty was accused of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl on one occasion in approximately 1968. At the time of the alleged abuse, he was assigned to Church of the Nativity in El Monte, California, and the girl was attending CCD classes through Church of the Nativity. The abuse occurred on a playground near the church. Father Ginty reportedly reached into the top of the girl’s top and fondled her breasts, skin-on-skin.
The claim settled in 2020.
Father Ginty died in 1985.
