Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Dennis Carey:

Fr. Dennis Carey was ordained to the priesthood in 1998, and served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Norwich. According to media reports, in June 2012, Connecticut State Police raided the rectory at St. Paul in Chains in Waterford, CT and found suspected child pornography on a computer belonging to Fr. Dennis Carey. He was charged with first degree possession of child pornography and was ordered to have no contact with children and not to use computers.

Investigators found 338 files of suspected pornography involving male and female minors: several videos included children between the ages of 2 and 3 years old. Fr. Carey admitted to police that he was addicted to pornography and had been viewing it for two years. Following his arrest and release on bail, Fr. Carey was sent to St. John Vianney, a treatment center for Catholic clergy in Downington, PA.

In 2019, the Diocese of Norwich publicly named Fr. Dennis Carey on its list of “clergy with allegations of substance abuse of a minor.”

Fr. Carey died from a stroke in May 2013 prior to his sentencing.
