Cornelius Ian, AKA, Fr. Scott McCarthy was a priest of the Diocese of Monterey He spent a lot of time traveling across the country, even with the Diocesan Native American Ministry went he took a year sabbatical in 1990 on the Crow Indian Reservation in Montana.
In 2019, Fr. Scott McCarthy was included on the Diocese of Monterey’s 2019 List of Credibly Accused Clergy of Sexual Abuse. No information about the age/gender of his alleged victims or the nature of the alleged sexual abuse is known. The list notes that there was a report received in 2002 in reference to an incident that took place in 1976. Initially, the allegation deemed non-credible, then it was changed to credible, and Fr. McCarthy had faculties removed in 2019.
