Fr. John P McDonagh served in multiple parishes in New York as an administrator and parochial vicar. In 2015, he celebrated his 75th birthday, and by the archdiocesan policy that means mandatory retirement for active priests. According to media reports, he was removed from ministry after a child sexual abuse allegation was found credible and substantiated by the Archdiocesan Review Board. The canonical process of laicization is pending.
