Alan Li Miami Beach Doctor Sex Trafficking

Miami Beach Doctor Alan Li Arrested for Attempting to Sex Traffic a Minor

On May 12, 2022, the FBI arrested Alan Li, a resident doctor at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, for attempting to sex traffick a 12-year-old girl. Li faces charges of attempted sex trafficking of a minor and attempted coercion or enticement of a minor younger than 14. Li, 26, is being held at the Federal Detention Center in Miami until sentencing.

According to his arrest affidavit, the FBI began an investigation of Li after a tip was called in by a Ohio woman alleging Li tried to buy underage girls as sex slaves. The woman told the FBI that she initially met Li on a dating/escort site and met in person once. She told the FBI that during their date, she told Li that she was trafficked at a young age. The two lost touch for about a year, and in March 2022, Li reached out to her on Snapchat, asking if she knew how to find his friend, Michael Chen, young girls in the Miami area. Li wrote, “My friend wants to meet young girls and is willing to pay, can you help him out?” The woman asked what he was looking for, and Li replied back with “girls ideally 8-15.”

The woman told law enforcement she believed Li and Chen were the same person and that she knew Li worked at Mount Sinai Hospital. She also alerted hospital staff of Li’s actions. The woman allowed an FBI agent to take over her Snapchat account to communicate with Li/Chen. When Li contacted the woman for an update, the FBI employee gave him a phone number for an investigator posing as a “trafficker,” the affidavit said. The two messaged back and forth a few times and discussed payment. Li agreed to $500 for one hour with the 12-year-old. He then asked if he could pay in cash or Bitcoin, and said he didn’t want to use CashApp because he would have to provide his social security number.

The two also discussed a “long-term set up” and Li mentioned he had a “live in situation” before with a 13-year-old girl. They then discussed him purchasing a minor to live with him, and the “trafficker” asked how he would keep the 12-year-old “quiet and unseen.” He replied with, “Ya I mean I’ll keep everything locked up, but she is well behaved I assume?” Li asked if the “trafficker” had ever set up a permanent situation and how much it cost, and the “trafficker” replied a one-time payment of $20,000, to which Li said that was reasonable but that he had to meet her first.

According to media reports, the two arranged to meet on April 12, but Li canceled, saying he had to work late. There were no communications until April 29, when the “trafficker” messaged Li about having some high-end girls in town. For the next few days, they messaged intermittently about girls available, including ages and prices, and on May 2, Li messaged the agent asking if anyone was available. The “trafficker” wrote back that there were 12 and 15-year-olds available, and Li agreed to the rates. Li then messaged woman again saying that he was feeling nervous.

Li ultimately never followed through on arrangements to meet and buy an underage girl, but the FBI made the case in the criminal complaint record that investigators found probable cause that Li had attempted to traffic a minor for sex.

Mount Sinai released a statement stating, “Mount Sinai’s top priority is the safety of our patients, visitors, and employees. The individual is no longer employed with the medical center. Mount Sinai Medical Center cannot comment further on matters regarding ongoing investigations and legal proceedings. To the extent that we are aware of an incident, the appropriate authorities are contacted immediately and have our full cooperation.”

South Beach Massage Therapist Gets License Restricted for Alleged Sexual Misconduct at W Hotel

On March 28, 2022, the Florida Department of Health (DOH) ordered the Emergency Restriction of the license of massage therapist, Salim Baghdadi, prohibiting his practice of massage therapy on male clients in the State of Florida. The Emergency Order was entered in response to a sexual misconduct complaint by a male client that allegedly occurred at Away Spa in Miami Beach. Salim Baghdadi has been a licensed massage therapist since July 2020.

According to the Order, on November 15, 2021, Baghdadi performed a massage on a 39-year-old male client at Away Spa, located inside the W Hotel in South Beach. During the massage, Baghdadi placed his hands underneath the draping and made skin-to-skin contact while massaging the client’s inner thigh. The client claims Baghdadi repeatedly grazed the client’s testicles with the side of his hand and/or his wrist. He then asked the client to flip over to lay face-up. While at the head of the table, Baghdadi repeatedly stretched his arms from the client’s shoulders until his hands allegedly reached his genital area.

Baghdadi rubbed his hands against the client’s testicles and grabbed his penis. He repeated this while standing at the foot of the table. The client pushed Baghdadi’s hand away approximately four times to which his response was that was his “trouble area” and resumed the inappropriate contact. Towards the end of the massage, the client noticed that Baghdadi reached his hand under the draping again to touch his penis and began masturbating. The client began to squirm away causing friction burns that needed medical attention. The client reported the incident to staff members at the spa and hotel, as well as law enforcement.

Baghdadi’s alleged violation of the massage therapist-patient relationship indicates that he may lack the good moral character and judgment necessary to practice massage therapy. According to the Department of Health, Baghdadi willfully abused his position as a massage therapist by inappropriately touching and sexually violating men who trusted him to act professionally and within the boundaries of generally accepted massage therapy and treatment.

The Order ensures he can no longer pose a danger to the public’s health, welfare, and safety, pending a final hearing by the Department. When clients book a massage, it is to decompress from the stresses of life. They trust that the massage therapists employed at the spa are carefully vetted and safe to engage with the public. It is unacceptable, immoral, and unlawful for any employee to touch a client in a sexual manner.

Diego Holguin Cespedes of Massage Envy in Miami Beach Disciplined for Sex Assault Complaint

The Florida Department of Health (DOH) issued an Emergency Order on March 9, 2022, restricting the massage therapy license of Diego Holguin Cespedes in response to a report of sexual misconduct during a massage he performed while working at Massage Envy in Miami BeachThe Order prohibits Holguin Cespedes from practicing massage therapy on male clients in the State of Florida. Holguin Cespedes has been licensed as a massage therapist in Florida since November 2020.

According to the Department of Health’s Emergency Order, on November 20, 2021, Diego Holguin Cespedes was assigned to perform a 60-minute massage on a male client at Massage Envy. During the massage, Holguin Cespedes allegedly told the client to flip over, laying face up on the massage table. He massaged the client’s shoulders and neck and then worked his way down to the client’s legs and thighs. While massaging the victim’s thighs, Holguin Cespedes allegedly placed his hand up into the client’s boxer briefs from the right leg opening. He then grabbed and stroked the client’s genitals and penis according to the Order. The client tried knocking his hand away and stated, “man, what are you doing, I don’t get down like that.” Holguin Cespedes allegedly responded by saying “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” and left the room. The client got dressed and told a staff member what had happened. Holguin Cespedes was fired that day from Massage Envy.

When clients schedule a massage, it is to decompress from the stresses of life. They trust that the massage therapists employed at the spa are carefully vetted and safe to engage with the public. It is unacceptable, immoral, and unlawful for any employee to touch a client in a sexual manner.  Clients of massage therapists are placed in isolated, vulnerable settings where they can be subject to abuse by their massage therapists. Due to the potential for abuse that is inherent under those circumstances, massage therapists must possess good judgment and good moral character in order to safely practice massage therapy. Mr. Holguin Cespedes willfully abused his position as a massage therapist to sexually violate a man who trusted him to act professionally and within the boundaries of generally accepted massage therapy and treatment. Mr. Holguin Cespedes’ violation of the massage therapist-patient relationship indicates that Holguin Cespedes lacks the good moral character and judgment necessary to safely practice massage therapy.
