Father Prosper Bemunuge
Archdiocese of Denver
Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Prosper Bemunuge:
Father Prosper Bemunge was accused of engaging in “various sexual acts” during a counseling session with a female victim in 1988. The abuse occurred while Bemunuge was an assistant pastor at the Nativity of Our Lord Church in Broomfield, in the Archdiocese of Denver.
Bemunuge was originally from the Kandy diocese in Sri Lanka. He worked in the Indianapolis archdiocese 1984-85 and the New Orleans archdiocese 1985-86, before working in two Denver parishes from 1986-88.
The lawsuit against Bemunuge was settled in 1989 and, presumably, Bemunuge left the priesthood at that time since there are no further records of his involvement with the church after 1989.
Currently, Bemunuge is believed to be residing in Winslow, Arizona and is a practicing registered nurse.
