Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Daniel Maio:
A civil suit filed in 2010 against the Diocese of Pueblo alleged that Father Daniel Maio abused a 15-year-old boy between 1968-1969 while Maio was serving as the youth director for the Diocese of Pueblo. A second suit was filed a month later with allegations very similar to the first suit against Maio.
The allegations state that Maio gave the victim and other children alcohol and marijuana, then played strip poker with them. Maio would then fondle the victim and simulate sexual intercourse, eventually progressive to oral sex and sodomy.
The abuse mainly occurred in Maio’s at St. Patrick’s parish in Pueblo. On at least one occasion, one victim says he was also sexually abused at a mountain cabin owned by then-Bishop Charles Buswell.
Both suits were settled in 2011 with unknown terms.
Maio died in 2006 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
