Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Richard Galdon:
According to media reports, after serving at Our Lady of Good Counsel for almost 27 years, in 1986 Father Richard Galdon was accused of sexually assaulting an altar boy and two other young students at the parish grammar school.
In March 1987, he plead guilty as part of an agreement in which prosecutors dropped charges that he sexually assaulted seven other boys between June 1981 and September 1985. Galdon was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Galdon was also a Boy Scout troop chaplain.
Galdon’s name appears on the February 2019 list of credibly accused priests published by the Archdiocese of Newark. He is listed as having “multiple” credible allegations of abuse against him, presumably referring to those for which he pled guilty. No other details about the allegations were provided and it is unclear if the Archdiocese has received allegations beyond those to which Galdon pled guilty.
Galdon is deceased. According to his obituary, Galdon spent the last months of his life at the Servants of the Paraclete, a notorious treatment facility for pedophile priests in Jemez Springs, New Mexico. He died in 2000.
