Summary of Abuse Allegations Against Father Robert Saccacio:
According to media reports in 2002, the Diocese of Rockville Centre removed Father Robert Saccacio from ministry after a claim of child sexual abuse made against him that allegedly occurred in 1961, the same year he was ordained. In May 2002, he “retired.” In April 2003, he was named in a lawsuit by another survivor accusing him of child sexual abuse for more than three years when he was an 11-year-old altar boy in the church sacristy at St. John of God in Central Islip, New York in the 1970s.
In August 2019, Father Saccacio was accused in a lawsuit filed under the NY Child Victims Act, of sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy from 1973 to 1975. The boy attended St. John of God in Central Islip.
He is believed to be living in Laredo, Texas but his current whereabouts, status as a priest, and whether he has access to children are unknown.
Saccacio is listed on the Diocese of Rockville Centre’s 2021 List of Clergy Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of a Minor. The list states that the alleged sexual abuse occurred at Holy Family Church in Hicksville, St. Francis of Assisi Church in Greenlawn, St. John of God in Central Islip, Fr. Saccacio’s family member’s home in Seaside Heights, NJ, Rye Beach Amusement Park, and at a private home in Long Island, NY.
