Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Ronald Silverio:
According to media reports, in July 2018, an essay was published by a man who wrote that Father Ronald Silverio had molested him and his two brothers in the 1970’s. The alleged abuse began when Father Silverio was assigned to the Holy Family Church in South Buffalo. After the accusation came out, another man told a new source that he was also abused by Father Silverio between the ages of 7 and 9 in the 1970’s. He attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Niagara Falls, where Father Silverio was assigned for 4 years.
In 1980, Father Silverio went on a “leave of absence,” after which he left the priesthood. He went to be an executive director of AIDS Community Services then President and CEO of the nonprofit Evergreen Association.
He retired in 2017.
In August of 2019, a new accusation against Silverio emerged of him sexually abusing a child for nearly a decade. The alleged abuse started when the child was 9-years-old and lasted until they were 18; from 1973 until 1982. The gender of the child was not identified and the lawsuit was filed anonymously.
