Summary of Abuse Allegations against Sister Rosemarie:
Sister Rosemarie was a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Mission of the Immaculate Virgin. According to media reports, in June 2019, she was accused in a court filing of sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl for years at Mission of the Immaculate Virgin for the Protection of Homeless and Destitute Children, Mount Loretto from 1960 through 1966. The alleged victim, a resident of the facility, said that she suffered “horrific acts of sexual and physical abuse.”
She said Sister Rosemarie “repeatedly sexually abused” her at night, and that her bed was kept closest to the door of a common bedroom housing, “thus providing easy access for Sister Rosemarie to abuse her.”
“I would often wake up and Sister Rosemarie would be at the side of my bed (just inside the door) with her hand under the covers,” she said in an affidavit. “This happened very frequently, way more times than I could count, and many more times than I could possibly remember.”
The victim also said she was physically abused almost daily by the nun and Sisters Agnes, Helen, Juanita and Philip-Marie, and a woman named Mrs. Hartman.
“My experiences at Mount Loretto affected me sexually, emotionally. I can’t even bear being touched by anyone. They affected my ability to have relationships as an adult.”
