Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Brother Salvatore Billante:

Br. Salvatore Billante, known as “Brother Sal”, was accused of molesting two teenage boys in the mid-1970s. Overall, he has been accused of sexually abusing over 25 minors from 1969-1989.

In 1989, Billante pleaded guilty to one count of lewd and lascivious acts with a boy under the age of 14 and he was sentenced to eight years in prison. Prosecutors said the abuse happened at the order’s Camp Salesian in Lake County, California.

In 1994, after serving half of an eight-year sentence, Billante, a former Salesian brother, was released on parole. Billante registered as a sex offender.

According to media reports, in 2002, Billante was indicted on 181 counts stemming from accusations by a single alleged victim in which he molested him on numerous occasions from 1972 to 1978. The victim attended Corpus Christi School in the Outer Mission District as a boy. 

In 2002, Billante was arrested again for those accusations of sexual abuse against a minor, but the charges dropped after the CA Supreme Court decision.

In 2003, Billante was named in a civil suit for witnessing another man sexually abusing a minor and not doing anything about it while in charge of the Boys Club at the Salesian Highschool in Richmond, California.

In 2019, Br. Salvatore Billante was included on a list of priests in the Diocese of Oakland who was named as being “credibly accused” of child sex abuse. 

Billante’s last known status was in San Francisco, CA.

Billante died in 2016.

Brother Salvatore Billante was a member of the Salesians of Don Bosco religious order. He was a youth minister at Corpus Christi Church for 25 years. According to media reports, he allegedly sexually abused as many as 25 children between 1969 and 1989. At some point during this time period, he worked at Salesian High School in Richmond and Corpus Christi Church in San Francisco. 

In 1989, Brother Billante pleaded guilty to one count of lewd and lascivious acts with a boy under the age of 14. The repeated abuse occurred from 1972 to 1978, at the order’s Camp Salesian in Lake County. In a plea bargain, prosecutors dismissed a second count of similar acts with another boy. Brother Billante was sentenced to eight years in prison. He was released on parole in 1994 and registered as a sex offender. In 2002, he was arrested again for child sexual abuse. He was named in at least one civil suit. His current whereabouts are unknown.
