Summary of Abuse Allegations against Brother Timothy O’Sullivan:

Brother Timothy O’Sullivan’s was a member of the Congregation of Christian Brothers religious order and served in the Archdiocese of Newark. He retired in 1997.  According to media reports, in November 2015, a $1.9 million settlement agreement with 21 alleged victims was reached with 21 alleged victims that claimed the five faculty members of Bergen High School sexually abused them when they were students attending the school from the 1950s through the 1970s.

In March 2016, his name was included on a list of accused clerics named in civil claims resulting in settlements or arbitration awards. He allegedly abused a minor from 1972 to 1973 at Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, NJ.

As of August 2016, Brother O’Sullivan was reportedly no longer a Christian Brother and may have worked for several years as a professor of science at a Massachusetts university.

In October 2016, a man publicly claimed that Brother O’Sullivan abused him at the school when he was age 14 in the early 1970s. Seven more former students subsequently came forward as of July 2017, with several claiming child sexual abuse by Brother O’Sullivan.

One man recalled how Brother O’Sullivan, his chemistry teacher ordered him to detention for speaking in class. He was asked to pull down his pants and underwear so he could be “disciplined.”

“I was completely naked. He put me over his lap, and he started smacking me – and I mean hard,” the alleged victim said.

“When he was done,” he added, “he was completely on top of me. I couldn’t scream. I couldn’t tell anybody. I was so scared. I didn’t know what to do. I was so scared.”

Brother O’Sullivan’s current whereabouts are unknown.
