Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father William Dowd:

Father William Dowd was ordained a priest in 1967 and served in the Archdiocese of Newark. He served in multiple parishes throughout his career. According to media reports, in 2002 the Archdiocese received an allegation of sexual misconduct involving Fr. William Dowd.  At the time, he was removed from his position as pastor at St. Luke while the Archdiocese conducted an internal investigation.  The internal review board concluded that the allegation was credible.

Fr. Dowd opted for a canonical trial on the charges before three priests, which could have ended in his laicization from the priesthood. Before the trial concluded, a second man came forward to report that he too had been molested by Fr. Dowd.

In 2007, the priest-panel ultimately ruled that Fr. Dowd was not guilty of the allegations and was fit to return to ministry. He was never charged with a crime by law enforcement officials as the statute of limitations had expired on both allegations.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Fr. Dowd is still an active priest in the Archdiocese of Newark, though his current assignment is not clear. He does not appear on the St. Luke website.
