Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Msgr. H. Clinton Teacle:
Msgr. H. Clinton Teacle was ordained to the priesthood, and served in the Diocese of Shreveport. According to media reports, in February 2019, the Diocese of Alexandria included Msgr. Teacle’s name on its list of “clergy duly incardinated or at one time serving in the Diocese of Alexandria accused of sexual misconduct and abuse of minors by allegations brought by victims or by written testimony.” The list notes that multiple allegations of child sexual abuse involving male minors dating back to the 1960s against Msgr. Teacle came before the Permanent Review Board in 2019. The allegations were deemed credible, and the board found further evidence of sexual misconduct and abuse involving male minors. The details of the allegations, including the information about the age/gender of his alleged victim/victims, the nature of the alleged sexual abuse, and Teacle’s assignments at the time of the alleged abuse are unknown.
In 2020, the Diocese of Shreveport released Msgr. Teacle’s name under the heading, “priests who served in the former Diocese of Alexandria-Shreveport removed for sexual abuse of minors.” Prior to the founding of the Diocese of Shreveport in 1986, churches in the Shreveport area were under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Alexandria-Shreveport. According to church protocol, the files of accused clergy members remain with the Diocese of Alexandria.
According to media reports, on April 18, 1969, Msgr. Teacle’s body was found in a hotel room in Sullivan, MO. He had been robbed and strangled. At the time of his murder, he was on temporary leave from the Diocese of Alexandria.
