Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Prosper Bemunuge:

Father Prosper Bemunuge was originally from the Kandy diocese in Sri Lanka. He worked in the Indianapolis archdiocese from 1984 to 1985 and the New Orleans archdiocese from 1985 to 1986, before working in two Denver parishes from 1986 to 1988 in the Archdiocese of Denver.  According to media reports, he was accused of engaging in “various sexual acts” during a counseling session with a female victim in 1988. The alleged abuse occurred while the priest was an assistant pastor at the Nativity of Our Lord Church in Broomfield, CO.

The lawsuit against Bemunuge was settled in 1989, when he agreed to an out-of-court settlement with his accuser. Bemunuge presumably left the priesthood at that time as there are no further records of his involvement with the church after 1989. His name was spelled Bemunge in the 1985 Directory.

Currently, he is believed to be residing in Winslow, Arizona and is a practicing registered nurse.
